Shirley J. Hutchinson, 96, passed away Saturday, Aug. 27, 2022, at Willows of Willard.
She was born June 24, 1926, to Guy C. and Sarabelle (Trembley) Fife in Norwalk and lived in the area most of her life.
She graduated from North Fairfield in 1944 and after graduation, went to work at Shelby Air Depot. From there, she transferred to Washington D.C. where she worked at the Pentagon. She retired from the former Pioneer Rubber Co. in 1988 as the credit representative. She married James R. Hutchinson in 1945 and had three children who were the light of her life.
She was a member of the former Huron County Ladies Sheriff Posse, former Lazy Aces Saddle Club, and former New Haven Sunshine Club. She was an avid reader and her choices were eclectic. She also loved Big Band music. In her earlier years, she enjoyed roller skating and horseback riding.
She is survived by her two children, James S. (Jean) Hutchinson of Willard and Jane A. (Charles E.) Ruggles Jr. of Greenwich; five granddaughters, Kimberly Garcia, Kelley Keaton (Tommy Elmlinger), Alexandria (Chad) Wilson, Kelli Steele, and Traci Handshoe; eight great-grandchildren, Jessica (Matt) Caporini, Morgan Patton, Zachary Keaton, Hayden Wilson, Scott Ousley (Meagan Martin), Jill (Adam) Sexton, Kara Ward, and Kade Hamman; five great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 52 years in 2001; daughter, Cynthia Eckstein in 1996; her sister and brother-in-law, Charlotte and Kenneth Sisinger; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Donald E. and Rita Hutchinson; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary and John Getz; son-in-law, Everett Eckstein; and grandson-in-law, Edward Garcia.
Shirley's funeral will be 12:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2, 2022, at Secor Funeral Home, Willard, with Pastor Michael Padula officiating. Burial will follow at North Fairfield Cemetery.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
