Robert David Ortman, 64, of Huron, passed away Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at his home surrounded by immediate family.
He was born December 23, 1960, in Norwalk, to F. William and Marilyn (Meacham) Ortman.
Bob was raised in Milan and graduated from Edison High School in 1979. He received his bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from Purdue University, where he played trumpet as a freshman in the All-American Marching Band. Bob spent his career as an automotive product development engineer, first working at Chrysler Corporation in Detroit before returning to Milan, where he worked at Tenneco-Clevite Elastomers for 35 years. He was an active member of the Berlin Heights and Milan communities. Bob served as Master of Erie Lodge No. 239 F&AM, past High Priest and longtime secretary of James A. Meacham Chapter No. 135 R.A.M. and was a 32nd degree Mason of the Scottish Rite of the Valley of Toledo. Bob also served on Milan Presbyterian Church Session. He was an Eagle Scout of Troop 214, Milan, and a past Scoutmaster of Berlin Heights Cub Scout Pack 236. Bob was a past Edison Music Boosters president and member of Sandusky Sailing Club. He dedicated his spare time to family and enjoyed spending time near the water.
Bob is survived by his wife, Karen, whom he married October 8, 1988, at Berlin Heights First Congregational Church UCC. He is also survived by his sons, Jeffery and Matthew Ortman; brother, James Ortman; sister, Diane Ortman; nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call from 4-6 p.m. Friday, December 12, 2025, at Milan Presbyterian Church, 17 E. Church St., Milan. There will be a brief Masonic service at 6 p.m. An additional hour of visitation will be at Milan Presbyterian Church beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 13, 2025, prior to funeral services at 11 a.m., with Pastor Donald Loving presiding. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Berlin Heights.

My deepest condolences to Jim, Diane, Karen, Jeffery, Matthew, and the entire Ortman family. I´ve been blessed to know your family for more than forty years, and Bob´s passing leaves a space that´s hard to put into words. He walked the path of a true Mason - steadfast in his character, generous with his time, and devoted to the people and communities he loved. We shared not only a bond of friendship, but the timeless ties of the Craft, as did our fathers and grandfathers before us.
May the Great Architect of the Universe grant him rest and grant all of you comfort in the days ahead. Bob´s life was a light to many, and his memory will continue to guide those who had the privilege of traveling life´s journey with him.

I'm shocked and saddened to the core to hear about Bob. He was one of my best friends at Edison High School and we had such a great talk at the 45th EHS class of '79 reunion last year. Salt of the earth, as decent as the day is long. (And even funnier than the day is long, too) Deepest condolences to Karen, Jim, Diane, and his other family members. I had marked the calendar to call Bob on 12/23, his 65th birthday. He is already so missed. Here's a selfie I took with Bob and his sons at the 2024 Labor Day weekend car show. Bob is 2nd from the left. RIP Bob, we all love you!

Sending healing prayers and comforting hugs as you navigate this difficult time - and wishing you hope and healing when you´re ready. I will always cherished the memories of the years working with Bob and his passion for life and being mischievous, he definitely was a character "one of a kind"!! In a "GREAT" way!!!
