Memorial service for Mr. John Dean George, 65 of Killeen, TX will be held Thursday, November 6, 2025, 11:00 a.m. at Chisolm's Family Funeral Home in Killeen, TX. Inurnment with military honors will follow the service at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX.
John Dean George joined the book of life on June 7, 1960. He was born to Bennie George Sr., and Doris Christine (George) Haywood. Moving around in his early childhood years, his mom and dad (James L. Haywood) settled on the west side of Gary, IN. He graduated from Ernie Plye Elementary School in 1972, Tolleston Junior High School in 1975, and West Side Senior High School in 1978.
He joined the United States Army in 1983. During his service he received the following medals and ribbons: The Army Commendation Medal w/1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Achievement Medal w/1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct Medal (2nd Award), National Defense Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon Numeral 2, and the Driver and Mechanic Badge.
After leaving the military in 1994, he settled in Copperas Cove, Texas with his family. There he worked for the Walmart Distribution for several years, including a transfer to live back in Gary for a few more years. Once he returned to Texas, he lived out his years in Killeen, TX. John was a man who placed high value on family and friends. His generous character and exceptional integrity made him a very lovable person. He was always the life of the party. His friends enjoyed his presence and candor at any event. He joined the Killeen Rough Riders, a trail riding group, and he enjoyed his last days attending functions with them. He also enjoyed bowling, playing dominoes and playing cards with passionate friends and family.
He was recorded in the book of death on October 17, 2025. He was preceded in death by his father, Bennie George Sr.; mother, Doris C. Haywood; dad, James L. Haywood; grandparents, Richard and Ada B. Thomas.
He leaves to cherish his memory: daughter, Tamika George; sister, Doris Elizabeth (Monte’) Haywood; brother, Bennie (Debra) George Jr.; two grandchildren, A’lisa and A’zaria Wilson; aunt, Arlene Thomas; uncle, Richard Thomas Jr.; cousins, Tiawon Biffle, Richard Thomas III, Damuene Biffle; nephews, Kingsley Haywood, Isaiah Haywood, Bennie George III; nieces, Iesha (Michael) Jordan, and Kali Haywood.
