Marie "Mimi" Gogolewski Luberger, 89, residing in Huron, passed away Friday, June 7, 2024, at Firelands Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
Mimi was born Aug. 26, 1934, in Meriden, Connecticut, to Edward and Elizabeth (Preston) Dalton, and moved to Huron in 1948.
Mimi was a 1952 graduate of Huron High School and attended both Bowling Green State University and University of Toledo. Throughout her life, she worked at New Departure Hyatt, became the first Project Director of Erie County Senior Center from 1974-1979, and was employed at WalMart as a phone operator for almost 20 years. Mimi was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church where she was a part of the Altar Society and Church Choir, past member of Erie County Democratic Executive Committee, Erie County Democratic Women's Organization, Federated Democratic Women of Ohio, Erie County Community Council, Advisory Committee of Sandusky Library Association, and Vice-Chairwoman of Area 1 Advisory Committee Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Northwest Ohio. Mimi was an avid volunteer and could be found as a Girl Scout leader, working with mentally and physically handicapped children, Huron Township Precinct Poll worker, Sandusky State Theatre usher, serving on the NAACP local Committee on Aging, working as a Hospice and Providence Hospital Auxiliary Volunteer, and was a Nursing Home Ombudsman for the State of Ohio in Erie County. She was the founder of Erie County Care Facility Auxiliary in 1971 where she also volunteered and was instrumental in the building and location of the new facility. In her spare time, Mimi enjoyed music and singing, stage plays, reading, traveling, and good conversations with all age groups.
Mimi is survived by her daughter; Mara E. Gogolewski of Huron; and son, Mark E. Gogolewski of Sarasota, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Norbert Luberger in 1990; two sisters, Elizabeth Schiffer and Vivian Hart; and five brothers, Edward, William, Frances, Charles, and Roger Dalton.
Mimi had a special place in her heart for her sister, Betty, and her husband, Roy Schiffer, who raised her, as well as her nephew, Chip Schiffer.
A private family service will take place.
