Louis Barton Obituary

Louis James "Lou" Barton

Dec 17, 1938 - May 11, 2024

Sandusky

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Louis James "Lou" Barton, 85, of Huron, who passed peacefully early Saturday evening, May 11, 2024, surrounded by his family at Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky.

Lou was born Dec. 17, 1938, in Cleveland, the son of Lewis and Ann (Matzek) Barton. He was a 1957 graduate of John Adams High School in Cleveland. Lou worked as a pipefitter for Pipefitters Local #120 which he's been a member of for over 61 years.

Lou started boating at a young age and continued enjoying the water his entire life. He had a home in Cape Coral, Florida that he loved so he could continue enjoying the water year round.

Lou was a Past Commander of G.C.B.A., Past Commodore of Island West Yacht Club, and member of Lake County Yacht Club, Westlake Yacht Club, South Shore Cruising Club, and United States Power Squadrons.

Over the years, he also enjoyed skiing, golfing, collecting movies, traveling with his late wife, Susan, and spending time with his family, friends, and grandchildren. He was a member of Fagowees Ski Club with whom he skied at resorts across the states and Europe. He will be remembered by his children for the patience he had teaching them all to ski.

He is survived by two daughters, Gina (Chris) Adams of Parma and Janine (Ted) Bertsch of Sandusky; two sons, Ross (Beth) Barry of Stow and Bart (Shannon) Barry of Catawba Island; nine grandchildren, Chris, Corey, Rachel, Brittany, Jessica, Stephanie, Zach, Ben, and Sam; 13 great-grandchildren, Ryan, Evelynn, Sydney, Elly, Peyton, Avery, Liam, Gwen, Josie, Ava, George, Tinley, and Lincoln; one great-great-grandchild, Tyran; mother of his daughters, Julie (Timko) Barton of Sandusky; brother-in-law, James (Amy) Murley of Miami, Florida; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Lou was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 58 years, Susan E. (Murley) Barton on July 25, 2015; and sister, Nancy Ann Vernyi.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday, May 20, 2024, at David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. Lou's funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at the funeral home with the Rev. Wally Gilbert officiating. It was his wish to be cremated following the service. A private family graveside service will be at a later date at Evergreen Hills Cemetery, Chagrin Falls.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions may be made in his name to Stein Hospice Service, Inc., 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio, 44870, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee, 38105-9959.
