Janice Arlene "Tootie" (Yontz) Casanova, 85, of Sandusky, passed away peacefully late Monday evening, March 5, 2024, at Parkvue Health Care Center, Sandusky, after a brief illness.
She was born May 2, 1938, in Sandusky, the daughter of Albert Louis and Helen Marie (Warren) Yontz. Janice was a 1956 graduate of Sandusky High School. She retired after 20 years from Firelands Regional Medical Center, Transportation Department and Providence Hospital in 2017. Janice also retired from Finast (Pick-n-Pay) Supermarket in 1996 after 32 years of service. In her earlier days, she also worked at Ohio Bell Telephone Company and Isaly's Restaurant and Ice Cream Store.
Janice was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, A.M.V.E.T.S. Post #17 Ladies Auxiliary, Past President of Greater Beneficial Union Insurance Co. in Sandusky Lodge #323, Sandusky Orioles Club Nest #279, and Norwalk Eagles Ladies Auxiliary AERIE #711.
She is survived by her son, Donald A. (Denise) Casanova of Sandusky; daughter, Connie A. (Regis Jr.) Weiss of Hixson, Tennessee; grandchildren, Christopher and Briana Casanova, and Peyton, Regis (Victoria), and Thaddeus Weiss; two brothers, Wayne (Donna, dec.) and Dean (Doris) Yontz; and several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
Janice was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Donald W. Casanova, on Jan. 15, 2011; parents; two sisters, Marion Yontz and Geraldine A. "Gerry" Kaman; and a stillborn brother.
Visitation will be 9 a.m. Monday, March 11, 2024, until the time of Janice's funeral at 11 a.m. at David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. The Rev. Philip A. Gardner will officiate. Burial will be at Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
