James "Jim" Piszchala, 73, passed away unexpectedly Monday, June 26, 2023, at his mother's home, one day before his birthday.
Jim was born June 27, 1950, in Toledo. He graduated from St. Francis de Sales High School and University of Toledo with a Masters Degree in Education. He made his home in Sandusky where he taught school for over 30 years. He loved his job and his students loved him. Jim was also a passionate antique collector and enjoyed going to many estate sales.
He is survived by his mother, Adella Jakubowski; aunt, Patricia Born; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, Edward Jakubowski; and brothers, Gary Jakubowski and Dale Piszchala.
Visitation for friends will be 1-4 p.m. Sunday, July 2, 2023, at Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd., Toledo, with a scripture service at 3 p.m. Jim's funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 3, 2023, at the funeral home followed by Mass at St. Patrick of Heatherdowns at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery.

I'm sorry to hear of Mr. Pizachala's passing. He really was one of my all-time favorite teachers. Very mild-mannored and friendly. My favorite memory was of a game he called 'The eraser game'. We would all hide in certain positions around the room, and toss the chalkboard eraser at each other. If it hit you, you were out. You weren't allowed to move your feet, in the act of trying not to get hit. I won one time on a miracle toss at a kid hiding behind a bookcase. That was the 1974-75 school year. I actually had been thinking about him for about a year or so, and wished I knew his first name so I could see if he was on Facebook. R.I.P. Mr. Pizachala, your memory lives on in hundreds of students. P.S., I hope they have 'The eraser game' in Heaven, so you can take the devil out on 'Miracle Shots' better than mine.
