James A. "Jim" Ortner, 70, of Norwalk, died Sunday, June 25, 2023, at Gaymont Nursing Home, Norwalk.

He was born Feb. 4, 1953, in Norwalk, the son of Ferdinand "Ferd" and Jane F. (Becker) Ortner. Jim was a 1971 graduate of New London High School and Ehove Career Center.

Jim owned and operated Double-N-Feeds in Norwalk. He loved getting to know his customers, many of which became good friends through the years. Jim was an avid bowler and gardener. He liked to watch western movies and truly loved dogs, especially his German Shepherds. Jim married Elaine "Margo" Ortner and together, they filled their lives with many special memories, including their trips to visit Malabar Farm. He attended Wesley Evangelical Church in Shiloh.

Jim is survived by his son, Rusty (Jenny) Ortner of Tennessee; stepsons, Brian and Mark Gainok; grandchildren, Haley, Madison, Lucy, Katelyn, and Claire; and siblings, Robert Ortner of New London and Carol (Dave) Stoepker of Portage, Michigan.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Margo Ortner in 2018.

Visitation for friends and family will be 12-2 p.m. Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at Eastman Funeral Home, 200 West Main Street, New London. Jim's funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Wakeman Cemetery.
