James A. Crecelius, 92, residing in Milan, passed away Thursday, Aug. 8, 2024, at Stein Hospice Care Center after a lengthy illness.
He was born July 28, 1932, in Milan, to Albert and Dorthea (Cull) Crecelius.
James graduated from Milan High School in 1950, where he proudly played basketball and was the catcher for the baseball team. He spent his lifetime working as a dedicated farmer, contributing to his community and local agriculture. He also served as a school bus driver in Berlin/Milan, ensuring the safety of countless students. Throughout his life, James actively served on several boards, including Central Erie Elevator Board, Stokley Van Camp Union Board, and ASC Agricultural Board. He was a valued member of Milan Roden Gun Club, Milan Odd Fellows, and FA Sheriff Auxiliary. In his spare time, James enjoyed playing dart ball, camping, and supporting his children and grandchildren at their sporting events. A true Cleveland sports fan, he never missed an opportunity to cheer on his favorite teams.
James is survived by his wife, Marjorie A. (Fitz) Crecelius, whom he met at Downing's Barn Dance and married Aug. 11, 1951; daughters, Deborah (Gary) Dickman of Clyde, Lynn (Mark) Keller of Sandusky, Laura (John Field) Stower of Norwalk, and Janice (Mark) Frankboner of Milan; son, Steven (Susan) Crecelius of Milan; sister, Joann Jones of Idaho; brother, Wayne Crecelius of Milan; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Herman Crecelius; and sisters, Alivina Schaeffer and Ruth Kyle.
James' graveside service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2024, at Milan Cemetery. All are welcome.
Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting with arrangements.
