Gerald Huffman Obituary

Gerald "Jerry" D. Huffman Jr.

Apr 18, 1951 - Mar 10, 2026

Norwalk

Gerald "Jerry" D. Huffman Jr., 74, of Norwalk and formerly of Greenwich, passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at Admiral's Pointe Care Center in Huron. Born April 18, 1951, in Willard, he was the son of the late Gerald D. Huffman Sr., and Jewel (Patrick) Huffman. He was a 1969 graduate of South Central High School and a member of the first graduating class from EHOVE in agriculture.

Jerry proudly served as a jet engine mechanic for six years in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Era, until an injury terminated his service. After he returned home, he became heavily involved with Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and served as Commander of the Huron County Chapter No. 62 for many years. He was also the Huron County VA Commissioner Representative.

A hard-working and mechanically minded individual, Jerry worked on the family farm after his Air Force service, before transitioning to a career in maintenance. He worked for Mercy Willard Hospital and later retired as the Building and Maintenance Supervisor for Huron County. He was well respected by his superiors and colleagues and will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

As dedicated to his work as Jerry was, he was also a devoted family man who cherished time spent with his daughters and grandchildren and loved animals. A true outdoorsman, he was an avid hunter, often hunting rabbits, deer, and squirrels. He also had the opportunity to travel to Canada twice to hunt bear; these trips were cherished memories for him.

Left to cherish Jerry's memory are his beloved daughters, Sara (Dennis) Huffman Schmidt of Louisville, Kentucky and April (Howard Neely) Huffman of Norwalk; two grandchildren, Xaviar Eastman and Sylis Neely; the mother of his children, Martha Huffman; siblings, Jack Huffman of Greenwich and Susan (Brian) Botdorf of Dover; a niece, Brooke (Andy) Meyer; nephew, Jeremiah (Alisha) Huffman; and several other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Jewel Huffman Sr.

Family and friends are invited to visitation from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday, March 20, 2026, at Eastman Funeral Home, 49 W. Main St., Greenwich, OH 44837. Funeral service, including military honors, will begin immediately following visitation at 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans Chapter No. 62, 87 Woodlawn Ave., Norwalk, OH 4857, or Huron County Veterans' Services Food Basket Program, 185 Shady Lane Dr., Suite C, Norwalk, OH 44857.
