Milan

Donna J. "Newzie" (Sickinger) Brunow, 96, residing in Milan, passed away Saturday, Jan. 21, 2023, at home surrounded by her family.

Donna was born July 11, 1926, in Norwalk, to the late Clifford and Grace (Krelich) Sickinger.

Donna was a 1944 graduate of Milan School where she served as class president, was track queen, and loved playing baseball as a child. She had many jobs during her long life. She worked at Trojan Powder (NASA) during World War II, testing TNT for the war. After the war, she worked at New Departure, Westinghouse in Norwalk, and many years at Scott Paper in Sandusky. She also helped build and owned the Milan Motel with the late Carl A. Brunow. Donna was a competitive person. She was almost unbeatable in gin rummy and croquet. She was also an avid reader, gardener, and made all kinds of pickles she gave away at Christmas. Donna was a member of Milan American Legion and St. Anthony's Church. She loved her house in Milan and was a lifelong resident.

Donna is survived by five daughters, Barbara (Stan) Evans of Sidney, Ohio, Carla Rowzer of Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, Peggy (Alex) Ross of Englewood, Florida, Patti Moon of Englewood, Florida, and Kathy (John) Yount of Wilmington, North Carolina; son, Glenn "Pete" (Jayne) Brunow of Dunkirk; 10 grandchildren, Heather (John) Joyner, Erica Weber, Bret Rowzer, Stephen (Lauren) Evans, Grant (Chelsea) Evans, Clay (Erica) Brunow, Cory Brunow, Clint Brunow, Katherine (Caleb) Evans, and Olivia (Patrick) Brennan; grandson-in-law, Charles Robinson; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to her parents, Donna was preceded in death by her brother, Dr. Glen (Dorothy) Sickinger; sister, Marjorie (Leonard) Gliatta; granddaughter, Amy Jo (Ross) Robinson; and nephews, Steven and Brad Sickinger.

Friends and family may join for a graveside service at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, 2023, at Milan Cemetery, 110 S. Edison Drive, Milan, with Fr. Francis Mariadas presiding. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, Milan, is assisting family with services.

We will certainly miss Aunt Noozie´s friendly smile, sense of fun and keeper of family history. She was a a strong woman, who loved her family and was so proud of them...kids and grandchildren. The family lost their Mother, and Milan lost a legend

I am so saddened to learn of Donna's passing. She was such a nice lady and enjoyed our talks whenever I would see her. My dad used to say how there were only 4 left from his graduating class and if I am correct she was the lone holdout. Now the entire class is joined again in heaven. I always thought there must have been something in the drinking water to allow Donna/ Marge/ Naomi Swisher and my dad to all live as neighbors and to live to a ripe old age. Donna was a very pretty lady and loved seeing her graduation photo. Milan lost two great Milan citizens on Saturday. Again I am so sorry for the loss of your mother and may the following verse bring you comfort during this difficult time. What must it be to step on shore and find it-HEAVEN;
To take hold of a hand and find it-GOD´S HAND;
To breathe new air and find it-CELESTIAL AIR;
To feel invigorated, and find it-IMMORTALITY;
To sail from the care and turmoil of earth
To one unbroken calm;
To land there and find it-GLORY.
