Diane Ellen Buckner, 68, of Bellevue, passed away the morning of Monday, July 8, 2024, at home surrounded by her loving family.

Diane courageously battled a rare pediatric cancer with recurrence in 2007, participating in numerous clinical studies and genetic research programs to hopefully have a better outcome for future generations. Always unique, Diane was a leap-year baby born Feb. 29, 1956, to Joanna and the late Harlan Frederick.

She attended Bellevue City Schools before working in apartment management in Rocky River. While returning to Bellevue to visit family, Diane met the love of her life, Raynard Buckner, when she was a frequent customer at his service station. They married Dec. 24, 1977, so they could always celebrate together on Christmas Eve. Soon after, she was proud to be hired at GE lamp plant in Bellevue. Following the GE plant closure, she was employed at Circon Manufacturing in Norwalk.

After becoming a mother, she decided to work from home. Thus began her career as a talented seamstress. Diane took great pride in helping her customers with many of them becoming close friends. Diane and Raynard also founded United States Flag Service. They sold flags and then expanded to installation of flagpoles across the area.

Diane's greatest joy in life was being a mother to her two children. Guiding her family with unwavering love, she created a magical childhood for Andrea and Robert. She attended every school event and was involved with PTO, Girl Scouts, and Bellevue Bands. When she became a grandmother, she was affectionately nicknamed "Ba" and has always been her grandsons' favorite person to spend time with. They loved having "Ba dates" and spending the night with Ba and Pa. An accomplished cook, she was always taking requests from her family - the Sunday and holiday dinners she lovingly prepared are treasured gatherings.

Diane loved being on the water with her family and enjoyed many summers boating on Lake Erie and visiting Cedar Point. However, her family cottage in Canada has always been her favorite place to spend time with her family. Sitting on the dock, exploring in her blue canoe, and taking walks up the lane are some of the beloved yearly traditions she enjoyed.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband of 46 years, Raynard Buckner Jr.; children, Andrea (Cortland) Schoenherr of Milan and Robert (Samantha) Buckner of Ortonville, Michigan; grandsons, Noah, Hiram, and Ezra Schoenherr; and many other family members and friends.

Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Sunday, July 14 , 2024, and 10 a.m. Monday, July 15, 2024, until the time of Diane's funeral at 11 a.m., all at Auxter Funeral Home, 1105 Castalia St., Bellevue. Burial will follow at Bellevue Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in Diane's memory to one's favorite charity. Diane especially supported charities benefiting children.
