Clifton J. Paynter Jr., 86, of Wakeman, passed Saturday, Jan. 22, 2023, at his home.

He was born June 30, 1936, in Rodney, Ohio, to the late Murial (Maddox) and Clifton J. Paynter Sr.

Clifton was a truck driver and worked for Roadway and Preston trucking, logging over 4.6 million miles and received several awards for safe driving. He was a veteran of U.S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict. Clifton was a member of Teamster Union and VFW #3759, Carey, and was a true outdoorsman where he enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing, mowing, and raising miniature horse. Spending time with his family is what he cherished most.

Clifton is survived by his wife of 64 years, Susan (McMahon) Paynter; five children, Scott Paynter of Carey, Jim (Kim) Paynter of Wakeman, Steve (Bobbie) Paynter of Wakeman, Tammy (Jerry) Morehart of Findlay, and Kelly (Dave) Champ of Arlington; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Skye Paynter; and siblings, Wayne Paynter, Sherman Paynter, Fred Paynter, David Paynter, and Connie Howard.

Visitation will be 10-11:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 27, 2023, at Eastman Funeral Home, 200 W. Main Street, New London, Ohio, 44851. Clifton's funeral will be 11:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with military rites to follow. Burial will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at Knollcrest Cemetery, 18003 SR 12, Arcadia, Ohio, 44804.
