Beverly Barr White died on October 23, 2022 after a long and full life. She was 91. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
Beverly was born in Cleveland, Ohio, third child of Clarence A. Barr and M. Meryl Thompson. She graduated second in her class with honors from Norwalk High School in 1948 and cum laude from Bowling Green State University in 1951 with a degree in elementary education. She taught elementary school in Toledo while her husband completed his degree at BGSU. She also taught in Cleveland, Norwalk, North Fairfield, and Lyme school in Bellevue. She attended law school at Cleveland Marshall but graduated from Ohio Northern University College of Law, second in her class in 1960. She also taught a private kindergarten one year while attending law school.
She met her husband Phillip M. White, Jr. while they were at Bowling Green State University. Beverly worked in the campus library and Phil played wide receiver for the Falcons football team. Phil came into the library one day needing help with reference materials and asked Beverly out on a date. They eloped while in college.
Beverly and Phil opened their own law office in Norwalk in 1961 as White & White. When he was elected Common Pleas Judge in 1989, she continued to operate her practice as White Law Offices. In 1995, she merged her practice with Richard S. Lynch and the firm became Lynch & White. Beverly took inactive status as an attorney after fifty-two years of practice.
Beverly was a former secretary, treasurer, and president of the Huron County Bar Association. As President of the local Bar Association, she was instrumental in establishing the Huron/Erie Counties Attorney Grievance Committee. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Norwalk. She was active in the Republican party and received the award for Republican of the Year in 2003. She was an avid golfer who was club champion twice at the former Elks course.
Beverly continued playing golf and acting as Republican Precinct person after she and Phil retired. In 1999, they moved to Coconut Creek, Florida to live closer to three of their grandchildren. Beverly adored and greatly enjoyed her grandchildren, Jonathan David (JD), Alex, Brandon and Megan. She was also very proud of all four of her grandchildren's educational and career accomplishments.
She loved to travel. Beverly and Phil often went to Las Vegas with friends, relatives, and even their team from the White & White Law Office. She and Phil also traveled many times to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to golf and enjoy the beach with family and friends. Lauderdale-By-The-Sea, Florida became a favorite destination after three of her grandchildren were born nearby. Beverly often said she probably wouldn't have traveled if it had not been for her much more adventurous husband.
Beverly was extremely proud of her and her husband's accomplishments - from growing up in the Great Depression to working their way through from college, law school, and then starting their own law firm in Norwalk. Beverly was a hard worker throughout her life. Beverly loved her family and instilled in her son's Phil and Blake strong values that have served them well.
Beverly had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. She was creative and an avid reader. She had an encyclopedic knowledge of old songs and enjoyed singing them. She always provided support and love for her family. In her final years, she enjoyed watching HGTV, going for rides by the beach, going out to with family, and swimming at the condo pool while telling stories to and interacting with her pool buddies.
She was predeceased in death by Phillip in 2009, her former law partner and beloved husband of 58 years. She was predeceased by her mother Meryl (1941), her father Clarence (1974), her step-mother Mildred Noel (1975), her brother Donald D. Barr (2003), her sister Lois Barr Klink (2013), and her nephew James Klink (2014).
She is survived by her two sons and their wives, Philip and Mary Vi of Smithland, Kentucky, Blake and Donna of Coconut Creek, Florida, her grandchildren, two great grandchildren Reagan White and Kiran White, two nieces, Holly Harvey of Norwalk, Lynn Tyler of N.Y. and four nephews, David White Jr, of Wakeman, Douglas White of Norwalk, John Klink of Ohio, and Leslie Klink of Michigan.
