Althea Johnson Obituary

Althea Marah Johnson

Dec 12, 1938 - Dec 3, 2024

Sandusky

Althea Marah Johnson, 85, Sandusky, was called home Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2024, surrounded by her loving family members at Parkview Rehabilitative Services Center.

She was born in Nashville, Tennessee, Dec. 12, 1938. She graduated from Sandusky High School in 1956 and later worked at EOD. She then went to New Departure, from which she retired June 1, 1992. Shortly thereafter, she started her business, BusiNet.

Althea Johnson was the daughter of Willie and Jennie Webster, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Willie Gambrel.

Althea leaves to mourn her husband of more than 60 years, Rubin Johnson Sr.; her sons, Jon Ross Johnson and Rubin Johnson, Jr.; her daughters, Jackie (Mike) Scott of North Carolina, Linda Hunt of Waterville, Doris (Joe) Smith and Rachelle (Greg) Perkins, of Toledo; and her brother, Stanley (Debbie) Webster. She also leaves the following grandchildren, Quanita, Rubin III, Dawn, Tawanna, Michael, LaToya, Janese, Joseph, Shawron, Isiah, and Morgan; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and godchildren.

Althea was a devoted and long-standing member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and played the piano/organ, two of her greatest passions. Her other passions included a deep love for zebras and the color green, staying informed through CNN and political discussions, and reading. From local newspapers to books, especially the Bible, reading brought her immense joy.

She was a proud and loving grandmother who cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren, making memories with them at every opportunity. Althea's love, wisdom, and vibrant spirit left an indelible mark on all who knew her.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral services at noon Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2024, at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 1215 Pierce St., Sandusky. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery.

Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, is handling the arrangements.

A beautiful lady, with great business acumen, Ms. Althea was. The consummate professional while still being personable, one could always feel at ease with her. And her smile, she had a smile that would light up a room while warming one's heart.
My deepest condolences to her entire family; you were her joy.

Our mother, Harriett Foos, worked with Althea at NDH and then went on to work with her once Althea started her company, Businet. It was such a bold move to do that at that time period and one that we had encouraged mom to do-but Althea DID IT! Mom always spoke of her in high regard and appreciated her guts, her business sense and her friendship. May she be an inspiration to her family and others. RIP Althea.
