Steven "Buck" Wayne Schwerer, 71, of Sandusky, passed away unexpectedly Thursday evening, April 9, 2026, at home.

Steve was born October 28, 1954, in Sandusky, to the late Eugene W. and Lois A. (Mischler) Schwerer.

Steve graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1972. He retired from Ford Motor Company in 2020 after 17 years of dedicated service and was also a skilled master carpenter with Riedy Roofing. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and belonged to the Elks; he was also a former member of the American Legion, UAW, and AMVETS. He proudly organized and ran the Sandusky Elks Kids Fishing Derby for 18 years, a role he was deeply passionate about.

In his free time, Steve enjoyed golfing, bowling, and fishing. He was an incredible cook and an avid fan of The Ohio State University and Cleveland sports teams, and a strong supporter of local athletics, especially Perkins Schools. Above all, Steve cherished his family and found his greatest joy in spending time with them and creating lasting memories, particularly with his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Steve is survived by his life partner of 23 years, Judy Binting. He is also survived by his son, Dustin "Buck" (Heather) Schwerer; Judy's children, Steven (Mindy) Rosenberg and Michelle Russell; five grandchildren, Hunter, Tanner, Shelby, Sydney, and Cassandra; three great-grandchildren; his sister, Kathy (William) Baron; and his brothers, Jeff (Jill) Schwerer, Dan (Margaret) Schwerer, and Mike (D'Anna) Schwerer; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, Elks friends, and many dear friends.

Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Monday, April 13, 2026, at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, with an Elks Memorial Service at 6:30 p.m. Friends may also call from 10 a.m. until time of Funeral Services at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory - Sandusky. Family and friends are invited to a luncheon at the Elks Lodge following the service.
