Monroeville

Roger L. Dickman, 77, of Monroeville, passed away peacefully at home Sunday, April 27, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.

He was born July 3, 1947, in Norwalk and was a 1965 graduate of Monroeville High School. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Bowling Green State University. Roger was a self-employed insurance agent at Dickman Insurance Agency for thirty-three years. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Monroeville and Roby Lodge, No. 534, F. & A. M. He was a former member of Perseverance Lodge No. 329, F. & A. M., Sandusky City Chapter No. 72, R. A. M., Sandusky City Council No. 26, R. & S. M., Erie Commandery No. 23, K. T.. Roger remained very active in the community throughout his life. He was a member of Sandusky Rotary Club, Sandusky Kiwanis Club, Firelands Historical Society, Farm Bureau, Firelands Stamp and Postcard Club and "many more, too numerous to list".

Roger was fascinated with local history and was the author of the book "Our Town Monroeville, Ohio", a pictorial history of Monroeville, Ohio. He was an avid Cleveland Guardians fan. He loved music, traveling, woodworking and collecting anything that piqued his interest – the collections are also "too numerous to list". His sharp sense of humor and joyful spirit made him a beloved presence among family and friends, and he found great happiness in the company of his grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Dickman; four children, Robert (Jeanine Mardis) Dickman, Scott (Debra) Scavuzzo, Elizabeth Young and Dawn (James) Kirby; seven grandchildren, Brianna (Kyle) Barman, Emma Young, Gabrielle (Jacob) Mackin, Sara Scavuzzo, Samuel Scavuzzo, Kali Kirby and Rohnin Alotta; one great-grandchild, Katrina Barman; two sisters, Donna Garwood and Nancy (Richard) Gfell; nieces, nephews, many other relatives and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his two daughters, Linda Dickman and Debrah Dickman; his parents, Gerald and Frances (Schoenegge) Dickman; and son-in-law, Brian Young.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until time of Roger's funeral service at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2025, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 121 Broad Street, Monroeville. Rev. Dan Pennington will officiate. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Monroeville. A Masonic memorial service will follow the committal service at the graveside.

The family is requesting that no flowers be purchased and that friends and family who wish to make memorial contributions in Roger's name do so to Firelands Historical Society, Monroeville High School, or the donor's favorite charity.

Pfeil Funeral Home, Monroeville Chapel, 109 Monroe Street, Monroeville, has been entrusted with arrangements.
