Robert Shean Obituary

Robert Paul Shean

Oct 28, 1947 - Jan 9, 2024

Norwalk

Robert Paul Shean, 76, of Norwalk, sadly passed from this life to be with our Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2024, following a seven-month battle with liver cancer.

He was born Oct. 28, 1947, in Akron, to Leonard and Coy Ruth (Tausch) Shean.

Robert, or Bob to all who knew him, was a man of depth and many skills. Even as a young man, he always put his family first and stood up for what he believed in. He attended Conotton Valley High School, leaving prior to graduation to serve his country in U.S. Marine Corps. Bob continued his skills in the Marine Corps, completing specialized training, going the extra mile to become a military police officer.

If you were lucky enough to catch him in the right mood, you would be treated to a rare story or two from his military days. His dedication and honor for the Marine Corps was evident in his daily life.

Bob also liked to work with his hands. A master carpenter and cabinet-maker, he spent many hours in his workshop creating furniture and other items for his family and friends. This skill eventually led him to start his own contractor business where he was able to use the multitude of skills he perfected over the years. Many of his contracts were completed in the Cleveland area. In addition, Bob worked as an equipment operator and Road Master for the N&W Railroad in the early 70's and 80's. He also partnered with Lyden Oil Company to manage and operate the Amoco Gas Station formerly on West Main Street in Norwalk.

An avid reader, Bob was rarely without a book nearby or in hand, passionately discrediting e-readers because he loved the feel of the paper in his hands and the smell of the paper and print. Two of his favorite authors were Tom Clancy and Louis Lamour.

Every flower in his yard had a story and every bush had a history. If you were invited to share a beer in his shop, then you were treated to debates and discussions that covered a multitude of topics. He loved his dogs (Reich, Adak and Natasha) and enjoyed sharing stories about his favorite pups. Country music was his choice.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Theresa (Zanders) Shean; children, Robert L. (Michele) Shean and Tamilyn (Adam) Helbing; granddaughter, Keely Siesky; sister, Donna Barricklow; brother, John Harley Magness (Julie); and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Laura Smalley; and brother-in-law, Ned Barricklow.

Funeral Mass will be 11 am. Friday, Jan. 26, 2024, at St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church, 38 W. League Street, Norwalk, with Rev. Anthony Recker as Celebrant. A reception will follow Mass in Reynolds Hall (in the building next to the church) beginning at approximately 12 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Huron County DAV Chapter #62, 87 Woodlawn Avenue, Norwalk, Ohio, 44857.
