Margaret Channels Obituary

Margaret Channels

Jan 25, 1923 - Jan 13, 2025

Bellevue

Margaret (Peg) Ellen Rosenberger Channels, 101, of Bellevue and formerly of Llano, Texas, went to her heavenly home Monday, January 13, 2025. She was born January 25, 1923, in Liberty Township, OH, the daughter of Marion J. and Evelyn Elizabeth Hoffert Rosenberger.

Peg was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She made a life-long friend of everyone she met.

Survivors include two daughters, Delci Kaye (Andrew) Grimm of Nevada and Angela Channels (Byron R. Cline) of Bellevue; granddaughter, Crystal Lee Blanchard of Nevada; along with numerous nieces and nephews; and two beloved girls, April McCarthy and Ami Marshall, who Peg and Howard cared for and helped raise during their formative years.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Annalee; her siblings, Jean Wonder, William Rosenberger, Marion Rosenberger, and Mary Ann Hersh; and a grandson, David Howard Channels Cline.

Peg grew up on a farm in Seneca County where her family raised Scottish Short Horn cattle and Collie dogs. She and her siblings were active in 4-H and spent many happy hours at the State Fair each year showing cattle. At 20 years old, Peg was featured on the cover of Short Horn World Magazine with the champion steer she exhibited at the State Fair.

Peg and her sister, Jean, sang together at many churches and various functions in their youth. Peg continued singing throughout her life in her home church with her beautiful alto voice.

Peg attended a one-room school before attending Old Fort High School and graduating in 1940. She then attended Tiffin Business College. Following graduation, she assisted the war effort by working as a secretary at Camp Perry. While living in Texas, she worked as an office manager at an insurance agency for many years in Texas City. While working at Basic, Maple Grove, she met the love of her life, Howard Lee Channels, and they married June 6, 1948. They were married for 66 years until his passing in 2014.

They had three daughters, Annalee, Delci, and Angela. Peg and her husband moved to Texas City, Texas, in 1962 and managed a variety store where she also taught knitting classes. The family enjoyed camping adventures in southeast Texas, along with boating and fishing in Galveston Bay.

After retirement, they moved to Llano in Texas Hill Country. She embraced the Texas lifestyle and enjoyed the beauty of the hill country, barbeque, country music, and rodeos. She enjoyed deer hunting and continued to hunt even after her husband stopped hunting. She was an excellent shot. Peg and Howard spent several winters in Florida making new friends, fishing, and boating.

Peg and Howard owned Piper Club, tandem, in their younger years, taking their young girls to breakfast fly-ins. They later owned a 1948 Stinson aircraft 180-3 with a Franklin engine and a 172 Cessna, taking trips with their daughters and granddaughter. Peg took flying lessons and assisted her husband in navigation on their cross-country trips.

After living in Texas for 40 years, Peg and Howard moved back to Ohio due to health issues. They were able to spend time with family here and rekindle friendships. When her husband passed away, Peg continued to travel by herself into her late 90s visiting family.

She was a fantastic cook, she loved sewing, knitting, and entertaining, and NASCAR racing. She loved hummingbirds, Texas Bluebonnet flowers, and butterflies.

Her faith and her family were most important to her. She was an example of a Christian woman. She was feisty with a zest for life, always on the go, even into her later years.

Her beautiful spirit will live on in those who were fortunate enough to have her in their lives.

Memorial donations may be made to Heartland Hospice or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until a service at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 19, 2025, at Foos Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 504 E. McPherson Hwy, Clyde, OH 43410.
