James E. Gregory Sr. of New London died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2023, at his residence.
James was born March 9, 1952, the son of Fred Harold and Georgia Evelyn (Stephens) Gregory.
He owned JD Auto in New London alongside his nephew. He also worked as a set-up man at Lithonia Lighting in Vermilion and as maintenance management at Aster Court Apts. James enjoyed fishing, boating, and camping. He loved his family and celebrating holidays. He also liked shooting pool and loved classic cars. James was a member of Eversprings Missionary Baptist Church.
James' survivors include his wife of 52 years, Joy; children, Karen (Benjamin) Fillmore, James (Sabrina) Gregory Jr., and Carrie (Kelsey) Clyburn; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren with three more on the way; and siblings, Evelyn, Earl, Phil, Kathy, David, and Larry.
He was preceded in death by his son, Gary Dale Gregory; three sisters; and two brothers.
James' services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 29, 2023, until the time of service at 12 p.m. at Eversprings Missionary Baptist Church, 49536 Middle Ridge Road, Amherst. Burial will follow at Grove Street Cemetery.
