Edward J. Podgurski Sr., 90, residing in Huron, passed away Wednesday evening, November 12, 2025, at home after a lengthy illness.
Edward was born December 1, 1934, in Gypsum, to the late Alex and Margaret (Sokolowski) Podgurski.
Edward graduated from Port Clinton High School in 1953. He was a proud U.S. Navy veteran, serving his country from 1953 to 1957. Early in Edward's career, he was a mail carrier for Port Clinton Post Office and then worked as an electrician for many years, spending twenty-five of them with General Motors before retiring in 1999. He was a member of several Polish organizations, as well as American Legion Post 83 and AMVETS Post 17. Edward enjoyed volunteering and helping friends and family with electrical work, traveling out west, Notre Dame Football, and especially loved polka festivals and dancing with his late wife, Shirley.
Edward is survived by his daughter, Peggy (Bill) Mohr of Castalia; sons, Edward (Nancy) Podgurski Jr. of Berlin Heights and Shawn (Courtney Poddig) Podgurski of Chicago, Illinois; grandchildren, Bryan (Marta), Jacob (Sara), Eros and Phenix; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, Edward is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley M. (Trautman) Podgurski in 2010; brothers, Charles, John, Stanley and Alexander Podgurski; and sisters, Olga Czepke and Mary Podgurski.
A Mass of Christian burial will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 428 Tiffin Ave. Sandusky, with military honors to follow. Burial will take place at a later date in Lakeview Cemetery, Port Clinton.
The family invites those attending to wear red in celebration of his Polish heritage.
