Dareyl G. Smith, 93, of Norwalk, passed away Thursday, Sept. 15, 2022, at Norwalk Memorial Home.

He was born Sept. 2, 1929, in Norwalk, and notably was the first born at the former Memorial Hospital in Norwalk to the late W. Scott Smith and Marian R. (Backus) Smith. He was a 1947 graduate of Monroeville High School and a 1951 graduate of Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. He served in U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1951-1953, where he was a recipient of a purple heart. He first worked in Findlay at RCA from 1954-1958, then Norwalk Truck Line from 1958-1968, and retired from Whirlpool Corp in Clyde in 1992. He was an active member of St. Peter Lutheran Church for 62 years and enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is survived by his children, Steve (Janna) Smith of Whitewater, Wisconsin, Ron (Betsy) Smith of Greenville, Jeanne (Ken) Leber of Norwalk, and Scott (Tonda) Smith of Peru; brother-in-law, Carl (SuEllen) Schwobel; sister-in-law, Rosemary Mathews; 11 grandchildren, Brahm, Andrew, Alex, Leslie, Maggie, Stephanie, Matt, Kyle, Ben, Carl, and Kathleen; 15 great-grandchildren; and faithful dog, Willy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Marian (Schwobel) Smith; second wife, Helen Eby; and brother, Richard S. Smith.

A graveside service will be 12 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, 2022, at Hester Cemetery, 913 Ridge Road, Norwalk, with Pastor Ann Marshall officiating with military honors. Arrangements have been entrusted to Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk.
