Carl Brandts Obituary

Carl Richard "Dick" Brandts

Apr 12, 1933 - Feb 1, 2024

Morrow

Carl Richard "Dick" Brandts, 90, of Morrow, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2024, at Otterbein Rehabilitation Facility in Maineville.

Carl was born April 12, 1933, in Celina, the oldest of three children born to Carl Anthony Brandts and Anna Lee (Fesker) Brandts. He graduated from Celina High School in 1951, where he played basketball and football and Ohio State University in 1956 where he graduated with a Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) degree. He then opened his Optometry practice in Norwalk as he wanted to be close to Lake Erie. He sold his practice (Firelands Optical Center) in 1982 and moved to Lake Placid, Florida, to successfully run the family cattle ranch and also with wife, Ann, operate "His and Hers" antique shop, which for many years was voted the best in the area.

He met his wife to be, Ann (Springer), in grade school and they married May 29, 1953. They had been married 68 years at the time of her death in 2021. Together, they had three children, Carl Jeffrey, Mark Gregory, and David Richard. He always showed total, unconditional love to his family.

His interests included fishing and water skiing on Lake Erie and snorkeling, spearfishing, and lobstering in Marathon, Florida, deep sea fishing the Gulf of Mexico, playing racquetball and basketball, watching football and basketball, and he was a fan of all Ohio State teams and thoroughly enjoyed playing cards or games.

He came to have faith in Jesus Christ as his Savior and Lord in his later years.

He is survived by his sons and their wives, Jeff (and Susie) of Sandusky, Mark (and Cindee) of Hilliard, and David (and Laura) of Morrow; grandchildren, Blake, Daniel (Taylor), Nick (Amber), and Kayla (Kurt) Cordray; eight great-grandchildren with one being in the womb; brother, Dr. John Brandts of Ogunquit, Maine; sister, Karla Brandts of Port Charlotte, Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Carl was preceded in death by his wife, Ann; and parents.

Carl's memorial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2024, at New Life Church, 10829 Sharondale Rd., Cincinnati, Ohio, 45241.

I remember Dr. Brandt stopping often to buy "roasting ears" from my father´s farm on Old State Rd in Norwalk. He was always so friendly and I was a young teen and I always appreciated his genuineness. He was always smiling. I am especially glad that he came to know Jesus Christ as his Savior as I did the same thing when I was 30. I look forward to seeing him in heaven!
