William Klein Obituary

William E. "Bill" Klein Sr.

May 1, 1939 - Jan 5, 2023

Vickery

William E. "Bill" Klein Sr., 83, of Vickery, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2023, while at Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky.

He was born May 1, 1939, in Sandusky, and was a 1957 graduate of Townsend-Wakeman High School. He received his bachelor's degree at the former GM Institute of Michigan. Bill went on to further his education and earned his master's degree at Case Western Reserve in Cleveland. He was employed as an engineer for NASA for 39 years, retiring in 2004.

He was a member of First Christian Church, where he served as a Deacon. Bill and his wife, Nancy, embarked in a new chapter of their life together as empty nesters by taking ballroom dancing classes. They fell in love with dancing and began learning many types of dances. Over the years, dance gave them the opportunity to travel many places to not only compete, but win several competitions at the amateur level. Bill found great joy in teaching church members, home schooled students, and especially his granddaughters the art of dance.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Nancy M. (Payne) Klein; three children, Charmaine (Paul) Schaefer of Mt. Gilead, Diane (Brad) Crouch of Norwalk, and Bill (Lyn) Klein Jr. of Sheffield Lake; seven grandchildren, Corey Schaefer, Toni (Connor) Smith, Ben (Janette) Klein, Alex (Michaela) Crouch, Bethany (David) Carek, Alison (Daschel) Fortner, and Jacob Klein; two great-grandchildren, Ambrose Fortner and Olivia Klein; three great-grandchildren on the way; honorary daughter, Jennifer David; honorary granddaughter, Sadie Awbrey; and nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Kathleen (Dickerhoff) Klein; and sister, Lynda Munson.

Friends may call 3-5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, 2023, at Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. The family will also receive friends at 10 a.m. until the time of Bill's funeral at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 9, 2023, at First Christian Church, 3410 Hayes Avenue, Sandusky, Ohio, 44870. Pastor Don Spurlock will officiate. Burial will be at Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church.

Bill was a great teacher, engineer, and friend. We spent a lot of time together at NASA. He was truly an example for other engineers and treated everyone with dignity and respect. He and his wife were great dancers and fun to be with. God bless Bill and peace be with the family.
