Wayne W. Sholes, 71, of Vermilion, died Monday, May 15, 2023, at Mercy New Life Hospice after a brief illness.

He was born Sept. 11, 1951, in Norwalk, and was a Vermilion resident for the past 23 years, moving from Columbus.

Wayne worked for the state of Ohio Job and Family services as an administrator for over 30 years. Following his retirement, he continued to work delivering boats and RVs.

He attended St John's UCC, Milan, and was a member of Norwalk Masonic Vernon Lodge #64 and Al Koran Shriners, Cleveland. In his younger years, he enjoyed flying his plane and ultralight aircraft, diving, white water rafting, fishing, and hunting. Recently, he enjoyed sailing, trap shooting, and being a redcoat for The Ohio State University and traveling. Most of all, he loved being with his grandchildren who were the apples of his eye.

He is survived by his wife of 21 years, May Sholes of Vermilion; stepchildren, Aimee (Brett) Colahan of Vermilion, Laith (Beth) Khalaf of Columbus, Saif (Jane) Khalaf of Mountain View, California, and Adrienne (Derek) Kingman of Walpole, Massachusetts; grandchildren, Madison, Camryn, Kaitlin, and Treyton Colahan, Josephine, Andy, and Grahm Khalaf, and Asher and Knox Kingman; sister, Barb (Bruce) Haynes of Sandusky; nephew, Nicholas Eastman; and niece, Kaylee Swanson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Cora (nee Martin) Sholes.

Wayne's memorial service will be 10 a.m. Friday, June 2, 2023, at St. John's United Church of Christ, 2712 W Mason Rd W, Milan, Ohio, 44846.
