Tom Makovic Obituary

Dr. Tom Makovic

Sep 7, 2022

Norwalk

Dr. Tom Makovic, 85, peacefully went to his heavenly home Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2022. His loving wife and son were by his side.

Tom was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, to Frank and Catherine Makovic. He graduated from St. Ignatius High School and then attended Case Western Reserve University and John Carroll University. From there, Tom went on to THE Ohio State University School of Dentistry.

Following school, Tom became a captain in U.S. Air Force, stationed in Virginia. Tom moved his family to Norwalk in the early 1970s. Here, he became a beloved and well respected fixture in the community. You could always find Tom walking down Main Street to his office everyday or riding his bicycle. His lunches at Berry's were legendary. How can he eat all that??! Tom would never brag or even tell you any of the good he did. He did it from the heart and needed no recognition.

He was humble and kind and loved the Lord. He loved cooking, baking bread, and being outdoors and active. His passion was bicycling. He enjoyed his cycle club taking trips all over the country or just a trip around the area to find the best deli! Moving to Arizona only furthered his adventurous spirit. He fulfilled his dream of white water rafting through the Grand Canyon. He made the best of his retirement in Sun City, Arizona. His new "job" became woodworking. Tom was masterful at creating something beautiful from a pile of scrap wood.

Tom is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Barbara; sister, Kathy Rath of Tucson, Arizona; best friend and cohort, Steve Kochis of Norwalk; children, John and Tiffanie Burrey of Surprise, Arizona, Geri Hunt of Bartlett Tennessee, Mark and Lisa Makovic of Greenville, North Carolina, and Barbie Willey of Bellevue, Ohio; grandchildren, Delaney and Jocelyn Burrey, Jason Makovic, Brian Romell, Jared Hunt, Curtiss Maynard, Kyle, Peyton and Matthew Makovic, Scott and Catherine Arnold, and Casey Willey; and nine great-grandchildren.

Tom was preceded in death by his brother, David Makovic; and grandson, Corey Arnold.

Just as in life, Tom has chosen to donate his body to help people in need.

There will be a private service at a later date.
