Thomas Sedlock Obituary

Thomas C. Sedlock

Mar 10, 1932 - Mar 10, 2025

Berlin Heights

Thomas C. Sedlock, 92, of Norwalk, formerly of Berlin Heights, passed away Monday, March 10, 2025 at Norwalk Memorial Home.

He was born July 30, 1932, in Cleveland, to Albert Sr. and Anna (Ross) Sedlock. The family moved early in his childhood, and he grew up in downtown Shinrock, Ohio.

Tom graduated from Berlin Heights High School, where he met his high school sweetheart, Betty Heckelman. Since they used the same typewriter in classes back to back, Tom would always leave a love note for Betty. They married August 30, 1952. While celebrating this year's 72 years together on Valentine's Day, they continued to express their love for one another, and all Tom wanted to do was hold Betty's hand.

Following high school graduation, Tom entered the Navy and proudly served his country from January 1952 to December 1955. He then worked for the family business at Heckelman's Service and later Johnson Furnace (Lennox/Armstrong) for 30 years. He was a member of Berlin Heights Fire Department from 1959-1988. He served as Berlin Heights Fire Chief from 1984-1988. While having a love for horses, he was a member of Erie County Sheriff's Mounted Posse. He and his horse, Sandy, responded to several calls for the community. Thomas was a member of the First Congregational Church of Berlin Heights. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, cooking, cheering on his hometown teams (Browns, Indians, and The Ohio State Buckeyes), playing cards, bingo, and attending his grandchildren's sporting events.

He is survived by his wife, Betty (Heckelman); daughters, Deborah (David) Houghtlen and Tammy (Michael) Sommers; son, William Sedlock; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his siblings, Abert J. Sedlock Jr., Shirley Siebert, and Karen Witzel; and daughter-in law, Beverly Sedlock.

Friends may call from 12-1 p.m Friday, March 14, 2025, at Toft Funeral Home, Hinman Chapel, 38 South St., Berlin Heights. Funeral services, burial at Riverside Cemetery, and luncheon will immediately follow. Luncheon will be at Berlin Township Fire Department, 12101 Ceylon Rd., Berlin Heights.

In lieu of flowers please consider contributions in Tom's name to Berlin Township Fire Department, PO Box 21, Berlin Heights, Ohio 44814.
