Thomas Green Obituary

Thomas M. Green

May 20, 1951 - Feb 5, 2026

Huron

Thomas "Tom" Green, affectionately known as "Greenie" to his friends, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, February 5, 2026. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, following complications from ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). He was 74 years old.

Born in 1951 to Thomas and Janice Green, Tom attended St. Peter's School and graduated from Huron High School in 1969. During his high school years, he was an active member of Varsity H team, Key Club, and football and track teams.

Tom enjoyed a varied and multi-layered career that reflected his strong work ethic and adaptability. He began as a lineman with Ohio Edison before becoming an electrician at Lake Erie Ore Docks in Huron, where he worked on many famous freighters, most notably the Edmund Fitzgerald. After the ore docks closed, Tom continued his career at the Chrysler plant in Sandusky and later concluded his professional journey as an electrician with U.S. Steel in Lorain.

Tom was a magnetic presence who drew people to him wherever he went. He made new friends easily while maintaining lifelong friendships from high school. If you were around Tom, laughter was guaranteed-he always had a great story to tell and, quite possibly, a new nickname just for you.

A lifelong music lover, Tom played drums in a band of friends and former classmates called "Nuclear Test Band." Though they played more for enjoyment than for an audience, they were exceptionally talented. Those fortunate enough to hear them perform were treated to a remarkable show. Tom passed his love of music on to all of his children.

Above all else, Tom deeply loved his family, and that love was evident to everyone who knew him. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His strong and enduring faith sustained him throughout his life, and he actively demonstrated that faith as a devoted father and family man. Tom's example as a father, family member, and man of faith leaves a lasting legacy. We will forever carry him in our hearts with God.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Janice "Nan" Green.

He is survived by his son, Jim (Alea) Green; three daughters, Janice (James) Hassinger, Victoria Green, and Meghan Green; two granddaughters, Fiona and Kaylee Green; and two sisters, Deborah (Ted) Paulk and Marguerite "Peg" Hearn, both of Arizona.

A private service will take place at Foster Funeral Home in March, followed by a celebration of life to be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Stein Hospice of Sandusky, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or a charity of your choosing.
