Susan Culbertson Obituary

Susan E. Culbertson

Apr 27, 1940 - May 4, 2025

New London

Sue, as she liked to be called, Our Loving Mother, passed away peacefully at age 85, May 3, 2025, due to heart and stomach complications. Born Susan Ellen Stearns April 27, 1940, in Washington, D.C., to Charles Harold Stearns and Helen Ash Stearns

She grew up in Syracuse, New York, where she graduated high school. She attended college in Tennessee, where she met and married James Valentine Culbertson. The couple moved to Georgia, where they had two children. In 1972, they moved to Virginia and lived on a 42-acre farm raising goats and other animals. After a divorce in the '80s, Sue moved to New London, Ohio, to be near her childhood friend Pat Hendrickson.

Sue was an avid crafter, quilter, weaver, and embroiderer, winning many awards for her original artwork and designs. She was also a lover of nature and animals, especially her pug, Arabella, and her pom/mixed dog, Daisy. She enjoyed gardening and her flower beds, baking, cooking, and reading. Sue loved her family and enjoyed displaying pictures of her grandchildren, Daron and Lauren, and her great-grandchildren, Lavender and Iris. During a brief time of her life, she moved to St. Lucia and loved the island life, embracing all the music and nature there, before moving back to Ohio.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents; and her late husband, James Culbertson.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Kimberli Diane (Tom) Saunders and Kevin Charles (Renee) Culbertson; grandchildren, Daron (Danielle) Culberton and Lauren (Tyson) Culbertson-Reichert; great-grandchildren, Lavender and Iris Culbertson. We love you mom!

Our mom was an independent and inspirational person and loved to learn new things. She always said there was specialness in everything, whether it be trees, buildings, flowers, animals, or people. She was always curious and excited to see and learn about something new.

Memorial contribu-tions may be directed to Huron County Humane Society, 246 Woodlawn Avenue, Norwalk, Ohio 44857, or plant a special flower or tree in memory of Sue, that you may enjoy for years to come and can think of her often.

Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 8, 2025, at Grove Street Cemetery, New London.

Susan was an amazing woman! She used to live at the apartments I managed. spent many days in her patio as she spun wool, or dyed fabrics while I played with the dog or visited with Pat. She loved to talk about her travels. Everything she owned had a story, came from a special place, or she made it. She loved her life and loved to talk about it with anyone with open ears and a smile on her face. Deepest condolences to the family.

I enjoyed driving Sue to her appointments. She was a great conversationalist and I learned plenty from her. RIP Sue
