Susan J. Chaney, 87, residing in Valencia, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family Tuesday January 14, 2025.

Susan was born July 18, 1937, in Sandusky to the late Art and "Peg" (Burton) Kresser.

A graduate of St. Mary's High School, Susan went on to get her RN from Mercy School of Nursing and her BSN and MSN from University of Pittsburgh. She was very passionate about her work at both Western Psychiatric Hospital and Dean Psychiatric Clinic.

Living in Lakeside, for many years, she enjoyed events at Hoover Auditorium, 4th of July, Derby parties, ice cream and coffee, golf cart rides, shuffleboard, and a gin and tonic at cocktail hour with the neighbors. Susan believed strongly in month-long birthday celebrations, never wanted to miss a party and enjoyed her weekly Mahjong meetings. She loved spending time with her beloved Goldendoodle, Riley. Caretakers described her as "spicy" and "a force of nature." Her sister would say, "That Susan, she's something else!

Susan is survived by her loving husband, Bill Chaney; daughters, Carol (Marty) Feczko and Liz Chaney; and her sons, Chris Chaney and Jeff (Deb) Chaney. She loved spending time with her family, including her 13 grandchildren, Chris's children, Max, Mariel and Emmeline; Jeff's children, Shannon and Jack; Carol's children, Luke, Jack, Kate, Sam, Sean and Claire; and Liz's children, Anastasia and Carter.

In addition to her parents, Susan is preceded in death by her siblings, Jenice Jordan and Mike Kresser; and granddaughter in infancy, Anastasia.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 23, 2025, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Marblehead with the Rev. Joseph Szybka. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Lakeside-Marblehead, OH. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
