Samuel Halkias Obituary

Samuel J. "Sam" Halkias, 73, of Westerville, completed the race of his life Sunday, Aug. 20, 2023.
Sam was a lifelong athlete who made his mark as a football player and star student at Bowling Green State University. For 50 years, he passionately pursued checkered flags under the banner of Sports Car Club of America (SCCA). His legacy in racing is punctuated by remarkable achievements, including clinching the 2009 National Championship in the SCCA E-Production class, and back-to-back "Triumphs" at the Put-in-Bay Reunion race. Beyond his own victories, Sam generously shared his expertise with others, served as an instructor at the Mid-Ohio School, and was an active member of Buckeye Triumph Club. In his spare time, he managed to carve out a long and successful career within the banking and title industries.
Sam is survived by his pit crew including loving wife, Carol (Reed) Halkias of Westerville; daughters, Julia Halkias Keller of Hamilton and Samantha Halkias Bivenour (Brett) of Lewis Center; grandchildren, Ashleigh Kastor, Marah Keller, Cole Keller, Marley Bivenour, Van Bivenour, and Shiloh Bivenour; four great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and an abundant number of nieces, nephews, and an exceptional number of wonderful friends.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Sophia Halkias; sister, Penelope Avesian; and in-laws, Robert and Agnes Reed.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 25, 2023, until the time of Sam's service at 1 p.m. at Snyder Funeral Home - Devore Chapel, 637 N. SR 61 at S. SR. 3 in Sunbury. Burial will follow immediately at Burnside Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Brain Aneurysm Foundation at www.bafound.org.

My good buddy Sam will always be in my memories. We met in a 3 year summer course for the banking community in 1976. He was a great friend and a better person. We had many good times together along with Ginger and Carol. My life was made better because of Sam. My prayers for Carol, Julie, Samantha and the entire extended family. God Bless.

Carol and family,
We were talking about Sam a few weeks ago and remembering our love the TR6. We´ll always remember him pulling into our driveway when we bought our TR6 brand new in 1974 and we still have it. The guys really bonded over those cars. Sam was a great friend to us while living in Norwalk. We hope that all the wonderful memories you and your family have will bring comfort to your hearts and a smile to your faces. You will be in our thoughts and prayers in the days ahead
