Ruth Ann Griffin

Sep 7, 1936 - Nov 3, 2022

Willard

Ruth Ann Griffin, 86, of Willard, passed away Thursday, Nov. 3, 2022, at her residence.

She was born Sept. 7, 1936, in New London, the daughter of the late George and Ottilia (Moschkau) Gemmel.

Ruth was a 1958 graduate of Bowling Green State University. She wed Donald Griffin on Nov. 7, 1959, at Mt. Hope Lutheran Church in Shiloh, and he preceded her in death Oct. 29, 2011.

She led a full and rewarding life. An assistant children's Librarian at Mansfield Public Library, Ruth later taught Family and Consumer Science at Willard High school, where she retired in 1996 after 29 years. Ruth owned and operated her own sewing business, Ruth's Stitches Etc.

She continued to enrich the lives of children as a former 4-H advisor and Den Mother for Cub Scouts in Greenwich. Ruth was an active and faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Willard, member of Monroeville Chapter Order of the Eastern Star for over 55 years, and life member of Huron County Retired Teachers, Ohio Retired Teachers, the Ohio Education, and National Retired Teachers Associations. In her free time, Ruth enjoyed sewing, bowling, crafts, and flower gardening. She sang in the church choir and enjoyed being with her grandchildren.

Ruth is survived by her sons, Gary (Laura) Griffin, a missionary in Honduras, Allen (Melanie) Griffin of Mansfield, and Brian Griffin of Willard; grandchildren, Brandi (Eric) Shepherd, Kyle Griffin, Allen (Robyn) Griffin Jr., Rachel Griffin, and Joshua Griffin; great-grandchildren, Kadin Shepherd, Adylynn Griffin, Hayden Shepherd, Amara Griffin, Kyle Griffin Jr., and Jenny Lynn Griffin; sister-in-law, Char Gemmel; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by her brothers, Alfred, Robert, George, Emil, Johann, Charles, William, and Lester Gemmel; and sisters, Dora Finney, Doris Hill, and Bernice Spady.

To honor Ruth's wishes, cremation will take place. A celebration of life is being planned and will be announced at a later date. Memorial donations may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church, 308 South Myrtle Ave., Willard, Ohio, 44890, Susan B. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation (www.komen.org), or the donor's favorite charity.

To Gary, Allen, and Brian and family members:
Remembering you as our neighbors as we were all growing up. Ruth having me sit with you as she taught summer school one year. ( Was it Allen or Brian who climbed up near to the top of the big Evergreen Tree?) I remember your Mom coming home and telling you to get down out of the tree. Ruth came and visited my Mother, Janet, often through the years. She always left with a smile! She had me visit her seeing shop she had created there next to the house. Mom and I will always remember Ruth with love and fond memories. You all are in our prayers and have our deepest sympathy.
