Robert D. "Block" McLaughlin, 85, of Sandusky, passed away early Sunday morning, Jan. 28, 2024, at Firelands Regional Medical Center Main Campus, Sandusky.

He was born May 28, 1938, in Lakewood, the son of Henry Joseph and Mildred (Hiss) McLaughlin. Bob was a 1956 graduate of St. Mary's High School and attended Baldwin Wallace College. Prior to college, he served honorably in U.S. Marine Corp. from 1956-1958. Bob served an apprenticeship in sheet metal fabrication and worked for nearly 30 years at Ahner Sheet Metal before retiring in 1987.

He was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, Holy Name Society, Saint Vincent DePaul Society, Knights of Columbus Council #546, American Legion Post #83, and A.M.V.E.T.S. Post #17. He also enjoyed participating in local team dartball and golf leagues. Most of all, he favored activities with his wife, Rita, attending daily Mass, baking/cooking, hosting family events, and providing small services to those in his local neighborhood.

Bob is survived by his wife of 63 years, Rita M. (Palmison) McLaughlin, whom he married May 7, 1960; children, Michael (Kristin) McLaughlin of Huron, Karen (Kevin) Quinn of Aurora, Indiana, Jon (Michele) McLaughlin of Sunbury, and Steven (Vicki) McLaughlin of Delaware, Ohio; six grandchildren, Eric McLaughlin, Erin (Jason) Caldwell, Kerri (Kent) Cochran, Kelly Quinn, and Abby and Brooke McLaughlin; great-grandson, Connor Caldwell; brother-in-law, Clarence Scheid; nieces, Diane (Roger) Andrews and Lynn Devereaux; and nephew, Jimmy Scheid.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Harry McLaughlin; sister-in-law, Bertha Scheid; and brother-in-law, Charles Palmison.

Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, 2024, at David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. Prayers will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 5, 2024, at the funeral home followed by Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 428 Tiffin Ave., Sandusky. Father Zach Brown will officiate. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky. Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post #83 and V.F.W. Post #2529.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Holy Angels St. Vincent DePaul Society, 428 Tiffin Ave., Sandusky, Ohio, 44870, or Back to the Wild, 4504 Bardshar Rd., Castalia, Ohio, 44824.
