Robert Holmer Obituary

Robert Holmer

Jul 21, 1936 - Nov 16, 2023

Bellevue

Robert "Bob" Holmer, 87, of Bellevue, passed away Thursday, Nov. 16, 2023, at The Willows at Bellevue.

He was born July 21, 1936, in Bellevue, the son of Albert and Catherine (Kleinfelter) Holmer. Bob married Elaine Orians on Sept. 7, 1957, at Immaculate Conception Church, Bellevue, and she preceded him in death in 2018.

Bob was a lifetime farmer, a job he truly loved. He and his brother, Don, started Holmer Farms and was later joined by their sons, Jerry and Tony. After "retiring," he could still be found working ground or at the shop. He was a member of St. Gaspar del Bufalo Church, Bellevue Knights of Columbus, and Eagles Aerie 490.

An avid race fan, he could regularly be found at Attica Raceway Park, where he attended over 630 races and operated the push Jeep with his son, Jerry. He also enjoyed going to the tractor pulls. Bob loved to play euchre and in his later years, developed a knack for baking and enjoyed making coffee cakes and delivering them to others. On his birthday, he could be found with a German Chocolate Cake made from scratch in front of him.

He was a loving father and grandfather. He instilled a good work ethic in his children and led by example. He was an avid supporter of his grandchildren and could be found at all of their events.

Robert is survived by his son, Jerry (Renee) Holmer of Bellevue; daughters, Sharon (Alvin) Zeller of Bellevue, Janice (Tim) Watson of Bellevue, and Kathy (Mark) Kaple of New Washington; six grandchildren, Jacob (Ashley) Holmer, Emily (Joe) DeBlase, Bryan (Melissa) Zeller, Brad (Brianna) Watson, Curtis (Lauren) Watson, and Janelle (Jacob Bollenbacher) Watson; 10 great-grandchildren, Jaxson, Braden, Layne, Quinn, Eli, Brynnleigh, Jarrett, Ryan, Alex, and Noah; brother, James (Shirley) Holmer of Willard; sister, Joanne (Tom) Shook of Tiffin; and sister-in-law, Sandy Holmer of Republic.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Donald Holmer.

Visitation for friends will be 2-8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19, 2023, at Foos & Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue, where the Rosary will be recited at 1:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 20, 2023, at St. Gaspar del Bufalo Church, 16209 Co Rd 46, Bellevue, Ohio, 44811. Burial will follow at Bellevue Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. Gaspar del Bufalo Church, Sorrowful Mother Shrine, 4106 OH-269, Bellevue, Ohio, 44811, or Stein Hospice, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio, 44870.
