Richard D. Affolter, 74, of Wakeman, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2024, at Fisher-Titus Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
He was born May 20, 1949, in Port Washington, to Donald and Helen (Miller) Affolter.
Richard graduated from Firelands High School. He was a veteran of U.S. Army who proudly served his country from 1969-1970 in Vietnam. He was employed at Ford Motor Company for 31 years. Richard was involved in many organizations, Honda Gold Wings, NRA, and Wakeman Eagles. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching westerns, attending veterans reunions, guns, cars, motorcycles, and hunting. He loved oldies but goodies and listening to his jukebox with family and friends.
Richard is survived by his wife, Julie Affolter of Wakeman; daughter, Jessica (Alex Jarman) Lavanty; son, Jeremy (Denise) Affolter; grandchildren, Brianna and Peyton Affolter; sisters, Patty (Jim) Aronhalt and Judy (Gary) Davidson; brothers, Danny (Linda) Affolter, Ronnie (Bonnie) Affolter, and Doug (Jennifer) Affolter; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald Affolter and Helen Potter.
Visitation for friends will be 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 14, 2024, until the time of Richard's memorial service at 3 p.m. at Toft Funeral Home, Wakeman Chapel, 16 Cooper Street, Wakeman, with the Rev. Lee Stall presiding. Burial will follow in Ashland at a later date.

My deepest sympathy goes out to Julie and the entire Affolter family.
I met Richard in basic training at Fort Campbell, we worked in the same area at Lorain Assembly, after retirement we kept in touch.
RIP my good friend, you will be missed.
