Nathan Charles Smith died Tuesday, May 13, 2025, from injuries sustained in a car crash May 5, 2025. He was born September 7, 1952, in Norwalk, to Arthur Warren Smith and Mary Jane Opperman Smith.

He graduated from Norwalk High School in 1970 and attended Mount Union College with a wrestling scholarship. He graduated in 1974 with a BA in psychology. He met his wife, Dottie, at Mount Union, and they married June 29, 1975. He worked in retail management for many years at Hills and then transitioned to case management for Grant Blackford Mental Health.

He enjoyed golfing, and since retiring he and Dottie loved traveling to national parks and birding. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, Carrie (James) McHaley of Bloomington, Indiana, and Jeff (Karen) Smith of Delphi, Indiana; grandchildren, Lilia McHaley, Maya McHaley, and Emmett Smith. Nate's brothers, Stanley Smith, Victor (Linda) Smith, Daryl (Terrie) Smith, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Dottie; his parents; brother, Neil Smith; and sisters-in-law, Clara Lee Smith and Cynthia Smith.

Memorial contribu-tions may be made to Hopewell Center in Anderson, Indiana, or Magee Marsh Wildlife Area in Ohio.

Celebration of life open house will be from 3:30-6:30 p.m. Saturday, June 14, 2025, at Edge in Anderson, Indiana.

I am so sorry to hear about Nate´s passing too. We played euchre with Nate and Dottie for a number of years. I was in Tri Kappa with Dottie too. I will surely miss them and please know I am thinking of your family and friends at this very difficult time!
