Michael Fegen Obituary

Michael R. Fegen

Feb 27, 1941 - Aug 11, 2025

St. Augustine, FL

Michael R. Fegen passed away peacefully Monday, August 11, 2025, in St. Augustine, Florida. He was born February 27, 1941, to Joseph P. and Alberta Fegen in Cleveland. Upon graduating from St. Ignatius High School, he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from John Carroll University. In 1966, he simultaneously earned his master's degree from John Carroll University and a law degree from the University of Michigan. His career began as a special agent for the FBI, with postings in Boston and New York. Following the birth of his daughter, Kara, in 1969, he moved to Norwalk, where his son, Rob, was born in 1973. It was in Norwalk, where he was a partner at Miller & Fegen Law Firm for 28 years. From 1988 to 1992, he served his community as Huron County's Prosecutor.

He lived a life defined by curiosity, adventure, and a commitment to service, which was especially apparent upon his retirement. A lifelong sailor, he spent seven years sailing the Caribbean. His address was his boat, and his mailbox was a shortwave radio. He regularly participated in local sailing races in St. Augustine. He loved sports; he rode a bicycle across the United States, was a skier, played tennis, then pickleball, and was an initial member of St. Augustine Yacht Club Dragon Boat Team. He was also an avid golfer. Traveling was a favorite pastime, and having visited 185 countries, he earned a membership with the Travelers Century Club.

Community was incredibly important to him. He served as Commodore at St. Augustine Yacht Club and was a dedicated volunteer with American Red Cross and International Rotary Club for many years, where he was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow. His memberships in organizations such as EMMA Concert Association, St. Augustine Garden Club, University of Michigan lifetime alum association, a lifetime member of Benevolent and Protective Order of the ELKS, Society of Former Special Agents for the FBI where he held a 50-year membership, and the Knights of Columbus reflected his wide-ranging interests and unwavering commitment to service and fellowship.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Alberta Fegen; his brother, J. Peter Fegen; and his daughter, Kara Fegen Woods.

He is deeply missed by his wife, Judith; his former wife, Jeanne O'Malley, the mother of his son, Rob Fegen; his stepdaughter, Christine Gilbert; his grandchildren, Parker Woods and Barlett Woods; his son-in-law, Peter Woods; his daughter-in-law, Victoria Fegen; his stepgrandchildren, Wyatt Gilbert and Hayden Gilbert; and his brother, David Fegen.

There will be a private family burial in Cleveland.

A celebration of Michael's life will take place at noon Saturday, October 11, 2025, at St. Augustine Yacht Club.
