Mary H. Burgess (nee Gross), 90, of Dayton, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2024, at Fairmont Senior Living of Washington Twp.

She was born April 26, 1934, in Dayton, the daughter of Frank and Geneva Gross. Mary grew up in the St. Anthony neighborhood where she attended St. Anthony School. She later graduated from Julienne High School in 1953. She was employed with NCR, where she and her beloved husband, Gene, set forth on a journey that took them to Norwalk. Later, she was employed with Norwalk Furniture Corporation. Mary was raised Catholic and had a strong faith. This devotion was complemented by her fun-loving spirit. She approached life with a childlike heart.

A nurturing and very loving mother and grandmother, Mary found immense joy in the company of her family, particularly when playing sports and cards with her granddaughters. In addition to family activities, she enjoyed indulging in mystery novels. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.

Mary is survived by her sons, Larry (Cindy) Burgess and John Burgess; sister, Bette (Hugh) Ryan; granddaughters, Lisa (Dan) West and Laura (Sean) Garguilo; and great-grandchildren, Natalie, Ben, and Jane.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and loving husband, Gene Burgess.

Visitation will be 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, 2024, until the time of Mary's funeral at 2 p.m. at Newcomer Centerville Chapel, 820 Miamisburg-Centerville Rd., Dayton, Ohio, 45459. Mary will be laid to rest with her husband, Gene, at Dayton National Cemetery at a later date.
