Martin Mutnansky
Jan 12, 1956 - Nov 27, 2023
New London
Martin Joseph "Marty" Mutnansky, 67, who lost his battle with MDS/AML, died Monday, Nov. 27, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Throughout an entire year of cancer treatment, he prayed for a miracle of healing in which he received when he entered into eternal life in the arms of his loving God.
Marty was born Jan. 12, 1956, in Lorain, to James "Jim" and Florence "Flo" (Jara) Mutnansky. He was a "simplicated," simple yet complicated man. Despite a bold, opinionated, and sometimes rugged exterior, he was truly a warm, generous, tender, and loving man on the inside with a very strong will to live. Stubborn to the end, he was adamant that he could do anything with prayer – and just a little cayenne pepper. A die-hard Cleveland Browns fan, he told doctors he wanted to live long enough to see the Browns win the Super Bowl.
Marty graduated from Lorain Catholic High School in 1974 where he played trumpet for four years in the high school band. After school, Marty worked at Ford Motor Company for 28 years, retiring in 2007. Marty enjoyed woodworking and home building projects.
He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church where he played guitar for 22 years in the choir. That was where he and Margie met. He also played for the church day camp in the summer for many years.
Marty was a member of Knights of Columbus Council #10063 of New London. With hard work and determination, he supported bringing back a benefit golf tournament and chaired the event for over 10 years. With his leadership and love of golf, he raised many funds for the organization and this was something he was very proud of. In 2023, he was the recipient of the "K of C Knight of the Year."
Marty spent as much time as possible playing golf and was an active member of Millstone Hills Golf Club, where he hit a hole-in-one in 2009. Golf was his true passion in life. He enjoyed the peace, tranquility, and divinity on the greens and he played in three different golf leagues.
He was also very enthusiastic about music, both playing and listening. He was a fan of Pink Floyd, Genesis, and Phil Collins. He instilled his love of both golf and music in his children and grandchildren.
Left to cherish Marty's memory are his beloved wife, Marjorie (Wise/Amburgy); sons, Eric (Linda) Amburgy of New London and Kevin (Ami) Amburgy of Medina; daughter, Maria (Kurt) Detterman of New London; siblings, Cheryl Mutnansky of Norwalk, Stephanie Landy of Norwalk, Pete (Maria) Mutnansky of Kipton, and Mary (Brian Steele) Mutnansky of Norwalk; grandchildren, Dax, Kaitlyn, Kade, Madilyn, Ian, Jack, and Makayla Josephine, who was named in his honor, who all called him P-pops; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives, and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jim "Jimbo" Mutnansky; and stepmother, Jean (Grosse) Mutnansky.
Visitation for family and friends will be 4-6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, 2023, at Eastman Funeral Home, 200 W. Main St., New London, Ohio, 44815. Mass of Christian burial will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, 2023, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, New London, with Father Ron Brickner officiating. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery at a later date.
The family would like to thank all who helped care for Marty over the last year including everyone from family members to friends, which includes those who helped drive him to and from appointments. The family would also like everyone to know that they are welcome to leave their formal attire at home for services. Please wear whatever makes you most comfortable, be it a sports jersey/shirt (preferably Cleveland Browns), Hawaiian shirt, band shirt, or any combination there of.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Margie. They will be dispersed to Stein Hospice of the Western Reserve and The Needs of the Community in care of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, in memory of Marty.
