Mark Holden Obituary

Mark Alan Holden

Feb 26, 1967 - Nov 18, 2023

Willard

It is with heavy heart and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mark Alan Holden, 56, a beloved husband, devoted son and father, cherished brother, veteran of U.S. Navy, and dedicated member of Willard Police Department.

Mark was born Feb. 26, 1967, in Sandusky, and passed away unexpectedly Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023, at his home. Mark attended Norwalk High School and enlisted in U.S. Navy at the tender age of 17.

Mark was a jack of all trades and had a resolute work ethic which he put to use at Venice Equipment, Bouman Chevrolet, as a Police Chief in New London and Willard, and most recently as the Detective for Willard Police Department. He was also employed as a police officer for Mercy Hospital – Willard, and, along with his wife, Shelley, a property manager for Northwest Columbus Rentals

In a chance meeting, Mark met Shelley in 2010. They married in 2011 and together, made a project transforming their new home and putting Mark's many skills to the test. Mark and Shelley enjoyed each other's company and spent their hours antiquing, riding his motorcycle, and combing Lake Erie beaches for beach glass. They enjoyed their time with close friends and traveling partners and faithfully attended Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Willard. Mark was a gun enthusiast and firearms instructor, collector of fine bourbons, and friend to anyone that needed his help.

In addition to his loving wife, Shelley, Mark is survived by his sons, Michael (Amanda), Bryan (Melissa), and Alex; stepsons, Cody Grundish and Matt Grundish; grandchildren, Mason, Destiny, Kaytie, Layla, Breck, Kameron, Harper, Samantha, and Mackenzie; mother, Phyllis "Dawn" Sheidler; sister, Debbie Carter; and brother, Bill Holden.

Mark was preceded in death by his father, George Holden; and stepfather, Duane Sheidler.

"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.' Psalm 34:18.

We invite those who knew and loved Mark for visitation from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2023, at Secor Funeral Home, Willard. Mark's funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2023, at Willard Christian Alliance Church. The Rev. Steven McKnight will officiate. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in New Haven where military honors will be observed.

This is very sad. I am a social worker that had the opportunity to work with him while he was in law enforcement. He was caring, professional and had humor. So sorry for your loss. Heartbreaking and prayers are sent your way.
