Leonard F. Schaffer, 100, a life-long resident of the Norwalk area, died Wednesday, March 22, 2023, in Irving, Texas.
Leonard was born April 3, 1922, in Peru, Ohio, to the late Leonard and Frances (Hohler) Schaffer.
He served his country as part of U.S. Navy during World War II and retired from General Motors, Sandusky, in 1987. Leonard enjoyed gardening, farming, home projects, and riding around on his John Deere tractor. He was a member of Norwalk V.F.W. Post 2743 and both St. Paul and St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.
Leonard's survivors include his children, Thomas (Connie) Schaffer of Irving, Texas, Daniel (Rhonda) Schaffer of Novi, Michigan, and Andrea (Steve) Tien of Southport, North Carolina; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Alex Schaffer of Norwalk; and son in-law, Thomas (Paula) Tracht of Norwalk.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 49 years, Margaret (Seitz) Schaffer; daughter, Connie Tracht; twin sister, Sister Francis Marie "Lucy" Schaffer; and nine other siblings.
Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 1, 2023, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 1322 Settlement Rd., Norwalk, with Fr. John Christopher Jesudhason and Fr. Ron Schock officiating. Burial will follow Mass at St. Alphonsus Catholic Cemetery with military honors.
The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 66 Chapel St., Monroeville, Ohio, 44847.
