Norwalk

Leonard "Vern" Vernon Cox, 71, of Norwalk, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 18, 2026, at his home with his wife by his side, due to a lengthy illness.

He was born August 8, 1954, in Sandusky, to the late Leonard and Virginia (Manis) Cox. He was a graduate of Norwalk High School and attended EHOVE Career Center. He married his high school sweetheart, Jane, in 1974 and remained married for 56 years. They had two sons, Jeremy Vernon Cox and Seth Michael Cox, both of Norwalk; five grandchildren, Layla (Michael) Pylant of Norwalk, Sydnee Roth of Fitchville, Owen Cox of Vermilion, Kacy Cox of Vermilion, Gonah Cox of Vermilion; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was a machinist by trade. In 1978, he moved to Louisiana and worked in the oil fields for eight years until he fell ill and returned to Ohio, where he worked for Newcomer Concrete for nearly 30 years until his health prevented him from working anymore. He always loved spending time with his family and grandkids. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working on cars.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Janet Richards.

He is survived by his wife, Jane (Shere) Cox of 51 years; siblings, Geanie Bollenbacher of Oak Harbor, Nancy Matthews of Port Clinton, Jim Cox of Tennessee, Kay Cox of Oak Harbor, Albert Cox of Fremont, Roger Cox of Berlin Heights and Julie Matthews of Tennessee.

A celebration of Leonard's life will be noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Norwalk Reservoir, Shelter No. 4. Local arrangements entrusted to Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk.
