Karen M. (Boos) McCarthy, 85, of Milan, passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon, December 28, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her loving children, grandchildren, and her last surviving brother, following a brief illness.

Karen was born October 6, 1940, in Sandusky, to the late Carl J. and Bessie (Kopera) Boos. She was a 1958 graduate of Sandusky High School.

Throughout her life, Karen held various positions, but she was especially proud of receiving the Churchill Humanitarian Award in recognition of her dedicated blood donations at her last position. Above all, Karen was a devoted and loving caretaker to her family.

She found joy in needlework, including crocheting, sewing, and knitting, and she loved gardening and tending to her vegetables and flowers. Karen will also be fondly remembered for her delicious home-cooked meals and her generous spirit, often preparing and delivering food to others as a heartfelt expression of care.

Karen is survived by two daughters, Kelly McCarthy of Norwalk and Shannon (Richard) Nevels of Indiana; one son, Shawn (Elizabeth) McCarthy of Washington DC; six grandchildren, Benjamin (Hannah), Lydia, Elizabeth and Anna Nevels, and Fiona and Finn McCarthy; one brother, Robert (Marian) Boos; three sisters-in-law, Donna (Roger) Hudson, Jayne and Judy Boos; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to her parents, Karen is preceded in death by her husband, Ronald M. McCarthy, in 2023, and by three brothers, Carl (Mary), Ronald, and James Boos.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until time of funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2026, at Groff Funeral Homes and Crematory Milan Chapel, 1 S. Main St., Milan, Ohio 44846. Karen's son-in-law, Richard Nevels, will officiate. Burial will follow at Meadow Green Memorial Park in Huron.
