Julia Christine Pole, 91 of Sandusky, died peacefully in her sleep Monday morning, Dec. 11, 2023, at Firelands Regional Medical Center, Main Campus, Sandusky.
She was born March 20, 1932, in Port Clinton, to Franklin and Stella (Raikes) Rofkar. Julia had many wonderful memories of growing up on Catawba Island. She graduated Valedictorian of her class and was a life-long learner till the day she died. Julia was an avid reader of history, science, medicine, biographies, and everything non-fiction.
After her husband's retirement, she and Don enjoyed many bus trips to the midwest and the northeastern states. Having said that God was so good to her, her pride, joy, wealth and legacy is her family, a family of doctors, artists, scientists, entrepreneurs, business and medical professionals, and teachers.
Julia is survived by eight children, Dr. John (Jane) Pole, Tony Pole, Fran (David) Cullen, Debbie Barnum, Roseanne Pole, Carol (Gary) Hipp, Dr. Michael (Martha) Pole, and Anne (Jack) Contieri; 19 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 73 years, Donald Joseph Pole on Oct. 8, 2023; daughter, Joanne; an infant son; and brother, Frank Rofkar.
It was her wish to be cremated.
Visitation for family and friends will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2023, at David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2023, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. Fr. Monte Hoyles will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Erie County Right to Life, P.O. Box 1385, Sandusky, Ohio, 44871-1385, or Prayers From Maria Children's Cancer Foundation, 20226 Detroit Road, Rocky River, Ohio, 44116.
