Judson Porter Spore Jr., formerly of Sandusky and Huron and Perrysburg, passed away Friday, Aug. 4, 2023.

Judson was born Jan. 17, 1923, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Judson P. Spore Sr. and Ruth E. Spore (née Knapp).

Judson attended Sandusky High School where he distinguished himself as a state championship swimmer, having graduated in 1948. He attended DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, meeting Barbara Rose Simpson and following graduation, married her Sept. 30, 1950, in Ligonier, Indiana. Working for General Motors at New Departure (1952-1963) in Sandusky, Judson attended law school at University of Toledo College of Law through scholarship provided by GM, graduating in 1963. Judson joined the Sandusky law firm subsequently known as Tone, Madrell & Spore. From 1965-1972, Judson was hired by Eltra Corporation of Toledo as Corporate Counsel and moved to Perrysburg in 1966.

Thereafter, Judson formed the Toledo law firm of Longthorne, Van Gutten & Spore located in Westgate in Toledo in 1973. In 1975, Judson was elected as Judge to the Perrysburg Municipal Court, where he served as Perrysburg's first full-time judge until 1989, and was assigned by former Supreme Court Justice Moyer to continue to serve as a visiting judge for the Northwest Ohio Municipal Courts through 2010, serving the municipalities of Oregon, Toledo, and Bowling Green. Later, after retiring from the bench, Judson became Of Counsel for the Law Firm of Spore & Associates, LLC in Toledo and Perrysburg.

Barbara and Jud had two children, Andrea J. Spore (1953) and John S. Spore (1955). Following the passing of Barbara in 2002, Judson re-married to Joann R. Hunt (née Trieschmann) in 2008, and resided in Huron until Joann's passing in 2020. Thereafter, Judson was cared for by his daughter, Andrea, in Sandusky.

Judson was a member of the Toledo, Wood County and Lucas County Bar Associations, a 71-year member of Perseverance Masonic Lodge, and member of American Judges' Association, Sandusky Yacht Club and Sandusky Sailing Club. He had formerly served as Trustee of the Wood County Law Library, Sandusky Yacht Club, Perrysburg Ecumenical Housing, Inc, and was a board member of Perrysburg Boat Club.

Judson is survived by his daughter, Andrea J. Spore, and her children, Ana Clair Printy and Ashly Miller (née Printy) (Tim) and six grandchildren; son, John S. Spore (Mary née Kohl), and John's sons, Judson C. Spore (Cessna, née Carey) and Christian J. Spore.

Judson was preceded in death by his former spouse, Barbara R. Spore (née Simpson) (2002); parents, Judson P. Spore Sr. and Ruth E. Spore (née Knapp) and sister, sister, Barbara LeVeau (née Spore).

Andrea & John and Family,
We are so saddened to hear of Jud's passing. We were always happy to be with Jud and Barbara, who both possessed an amazing sense of wit and humorl Trips to the Islands, boating excursions, and dinners with them were always special and filled with laughter. We will miss Jud as we have missed Barbara.

Jud was the first lawyer I worked with after law school. He was a great teacher and convinced me to pay attention to detail and the words on documents. He was interested in everything and approached life with great zest and a serious sense of humor. Classy man and great guy!
