John M. Hofacker, 96, of Norwalk, passed away peacefully Sunday, Oct. 27, 2024.
He was born July 21, 1928, in Monroeville, to Martin and Loretta (Obringer) Hofacker, and graduated from Monroeville High School in 1946.
John was an avid sports fan, faithful to Cleveland Indians (Guardians), Cleveland Cavs, Ohio State, Notre Dame, and Cleveland Browns. He enjoyed working out in his yard and spending any time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
John served his country as part of U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of Norwalk American Legion, Post 41, and Knights of Columbus, former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monroeville, and longtime member of St Mary Mother of the Redeemer Catholic Church.
John is survived by his children, Linda (John) Bell, James (Sarah) Hofacker, Julie (Kevin) Leibold, and Sharon (Dave) Hurley; grandchildren, John Hofacker, Amy Smiley, Jason Leibold, Sean Coder, Kristin Leibold, Leah Ahern, and Brian Hurley; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Therese (Kocher) Hofacker in May; brothers, Robert, Thomas, and James; and grandson, Brian Coder.
Visitation for friends and family will be 4-7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4, 2024, at Walker-Eastman-Heydinger Funeral Home, 98 W. Main St., Norwalk. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2024, at St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer Catholic Church, 38 W. League St., Norwalk, Ohio, 44857, with Fr. Anthony Recker officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Ohio Veteran's Home/Attn:"RBF Fund," 3416 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, Ohio, 44870, or Stein Hospice, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio, 44870.
