John Arthur Gravenhorst, 83, of Monroeville passed away peacefully Monday, Sept. 30, 2024, at Continuing Healthcare of Milan.

He was born Nov. 15, 1940, in Norwalk and was a 1959 graduate of Monroeville High School. John retired from Tenneco in Milan. He was a member of American Legion in Monroeville and VFW in Bellevue. John was an avid Cleveland sports fan, and had great respect for Jim Brown, Jim Thome, and Lebron James. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and raising livestock, especially pigs.

He is survived by a son, Steven (Nicole) Gravenhorst of Bellevue; a daughter, Debbie (Lew Sims) Gravenhorst of Monroeville; his grandchildren, Kaycee (Brandon) Knapp, Kade Gravenhorst and Kamry Gravenhorst; his great-grandson, Jayce Gravenhorst; a sister, Rita Leber; a brother, James Gravenhorst, a sister-in-law, Betty Gravenhorst; two brothers-in-law, Ronald (Kay) Herner and Raymond Herner; several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet (Herner) Gravenhorst; two sons, David John Gravenhorst and Donald James Gravenhorst; a grandson, Michael Justin O'Bryan Gravenhorst; and a granddaughter, Laura Donnell Gravenhorst; his parents, Bernard and Ruby (Smith) Gravenhorst; two brothers, Joe Gravenhorst and Tom Gravenhorst; two sisters-in-law, Sue Gravenhorst and Marilyn Gravenhorst; and a brother-in-law, Howard Herner.

Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, 2024, at Pfeil Funeral Home, Monroeville Chapel, 109 Monroe Street, Monroeville. A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 7, 2024, at Riverside Cemetery, Monroeville. Deacon Jim Reichert will officiate.

Contributions may be made in John's honor to any organization that supports multiple sclerosis, dementia/Alzheimer's or the donor's favorite charity.

So sorry for your loss.I am a stna from Twilight Gardens and my Husband and I knew him. Dan and Jenny Kaltenbach.He was a nice man.I looked after him and gave him snacks.Again so sorry to hear this.God bless.

He was a classmate of my dad´s class of 59. I remember his name and I remember meeting him, was super funny. Feel like he had a nickname. Prayers to his family.
