Joanne Elizabeth (Schild) Smith, 94, of Willard, passed away Tuesday morning, Jan. 24, 2023, at Commons of Providence Assisted Living, where she had resided for the last three years.
She was born Jan. 9, 1929, in Monroeville. Joanne was employed at the former Faulhaber Company, Monroeville, for over 30 years until her retirement.
She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Norwalk. Her hobbies included flowers and working in her flower garden, birdwatching, cooking, and baking. Joanne loved to host and cook for the family holidays. She was always willing to help family, friends, and neighbors.
She is survived by her children, Larry E. Smith of Willard, Sharon J. (Ken) Didion of Westlake, and David V. Smith of Bellevue; daughter-in-law, Cathy Smith of Michigan; brother, Howard Schild of Norwalk; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Vernon J. Smith, in 2019; son, Michael Smith; and parents, Clayton and Laura (Herner) Schild.
Friends may call 3-6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, 2023, at Pfeil Funeral Home, Monroeville Chapel, 109 Monroe Street, Monroeville. Joanne's funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, 2023, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 243 Benedict Avenue, Norwalk, Ohio, 44857. Pastor Ann Marshall will officiate. Private family committal service will be at St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery, Pontiac.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter Lutheran Church, Norwalk, or Stein Hospice Service, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio, 44870.

We send our condolences to the family. Joanne was my cousin, but she was always proud to say she was also my godmother. She would often tell me how nervous she was as a teenager when she held me at my baptism; she was, she said, afraid she would drop me! Tom and I had such a nice visit with both of your parents when we stopped in while in Ohio several years ago. We pray for your comfort and God's peace for all of you at this time.
