Jeaneen M. (German) Simek, 90, of Birmingham, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2023, at Mill Manor in Vermilion.

She was born July 22, 1933, in Amherst, to Hayes and Doris (Yates) German.

Jeaneen graduated from Birmingham in 1951, then started working at C.A. Olson in Elyria. She married George Simek on Jan. 31, 1954, just as he entered the Army. They returned to Birmingham, where they raised two sons together and where she lived independently until October of this year. She was employed in many roles at the Firelands Local School District, but for the last 26 years, she was the secretary to the Superintendent until her retirement in 2011 after 42 years of loyal service. Jeaneen was a member of Birmingham Methodist Church for over 60 years, where she was very active and served many roles at the church. She was also a member of the Eastern Star for over 50 years. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading and playing bunko with friends.

She is survived by her sons, Jeffery Simek of Wakeman and David (Pamela) Simek of Burnsville, North Carolina; granddaughters, Nikita (Devon) McCann and Cheynoa Summers; grandsons, Dyami Simek, Matthew (Tiffany) Simek, and Brett (Abby) Simek; 11 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Rita German; three nephews; and other relatives.

Jeaneen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George Simek; and brother, Warren (Bud) German.

Visitation for friends will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, 2024, at Toft Funeral Home, Wakeman Chapel, 16 Cooper Street, Wakeman, and 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 5, 2024, until the time of Jeaneen's funeral at 11 a.m. at Birmingham Methodist Church. The Rev. Dick Kretchmar will preside. Burial will immediately follow at Birmingham Cemetery.
