Janet C. "Jan" Smith, 72, resident of Willard, passed away Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024, at Gaymont Nursing Home, Norwalk.
She was born July 4, 1951, in Norwalk, to Fred and Dolores (Mitchell) Lockyer.
Jan was a lifetime member of Church of the Master in Steuben, where she served many roles such as Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher, choir director, and was part of the Womens Federated Circle. She was also a member of Willard Community Choir with her husband.
In her spare time, Jan enjoyed making wedding and birthday cakes, tending to her flower garden, and caring for her cats. Most of all, she cherished the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Jan is survived by her husband, Dale I. Smith, whom she married Sept. 5, 1998; son, Jeremiah (Alisha) Huffman of Willard; stepdaughter, Valerie (Russ) Malicki of North Fairfield; two stepsons, Adam (Lanay) Smith of North Fairfield and Hiram (Maurine) Smith of Willard; stepson-in-law, Kurt Barman; granddaughter, Claire Huffman; 11 stepgrandchildren, Rosie, Violet, Milo and Lilic Malicki, Jayna, Landan, and Madelyn Smith, and Noah, Micah, Aliyah, and Bekah Barman; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Steve Lockyer; and stepdaughter, Elaine Barman.
Visitation for family and friends will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, 2024, at Secor Funeral Home, Willard. Jan's memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, 2024, at Church of the Master, Steuben, with Pastor Dan Caudill officiating. Burial will follow at Greenfield Township Cemetery, Steuben.
Memorial contributions can be made to Church of the Master or Alzheimer's Association.
